It’s a hot summer day outside today, but this Minneapolis winter engagement session is refreshing like a tall, cool glass of water. This couple exudes joy, love and laughter. Their photographer, Kate Wenzel, couldn’t help but join in the joy and laughter while so beautifully capturing the love of this couple. In true winter fashion, the couple laced up their skates and went ice skating together at The Depot Skating Rink. After skating, they continued the e-shoot at the Mill City Museum and incorporated neat props like vintage luggage and a warm cozy blanket. Enjoy this joyful winter e-session!
From the Photographer: Laughter & Love. These two laugh constantly and love fully. They bring a sense of balance and complement one another in every way. Brian makes Danielle laugh, and Brian loves it. The way they feel about one another is obvious; whenever they lock eyes they light up. I found myself laughing so hard I had to consciously remember to hold the camera steady. This has never happened during a session. The results were wonderful—an authentic capture of two authentic people showcasing their love for one another and their love for life. Our time together flew by, and I found myself wishing we could keep going. We most likely would have if we were not all freezing in the frigid Minnesota air.
The Depot Skating Rink and Mill City Museum area—both in Minneapolis—offered the perfect backdrop for their session. It radiates a sense of vibrancy, and feelings of fun—just like Danielle and Brian. Here are a few highlights. I cannot wait for their September 2013 wedding!

Today we’re traveling back in time for this retro inspired engagement session by Maris Ehlers Photography. This e-session so beautifully captures the couple’s delightful combination of creativity, playfulness and romance. And the sweet vintage vibe with a bit of an edge makes it that much more captivating. I am loving their vintage inspired attire like Tone’s vibrantly colored red and yellow dresses and Travis’s suspenders and flat cap hat. The couple’s uniqueness and personality really shines through!
From the Photographer: Travis and Tone have been together for several years, and this winter, when the whole family was vacationing in Mexico, he popped the question. Wedding plans began, and they finally made a trip home this weekend and so their engagement session was immediately placed on our calendars.
Travis and Tone had lots of ideas about what type of photography they love, the look they wanted to convey, and how they wanted it to tie in to the 1940’s theme they are planning for their wedding celebration. What I really loved though, was their trust in a total stranger (me), and a willingness to let our artistic expression frame their ideas, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
We had a wonderful night, and they were truly up for anything. Not only that, they were excited, enthusiastic, and enjoyed posing and adding a little drama, which is always wonderful. It adds so much to the images.

These lovebirds fell in love while playing baseball and incorporated their shared love for the game into their wedding. Talk about fun! Dana Widman Photography awesomely captured the baseball inspired photoshoot of this energetic couple and their enthusiastic wedding party. The fun continues in the details like the guys’ preppy Converse sneakers and the punch of cheery bright orange color in the wedding parties attire and the decor. What a joyful day!
From the Photographer: When this sporty bride asked me to photograph her wedding, I literally squealed with delight… why? Well, for a few reasons…
1. I have known Lisa for at least ten years as we attended college together
2. I knew how much fun it would be photographing in small town, central MN lake town
3. I was hoping we would incorporate the couple’s love of baseball… challenging/unique/yeahhhh
4. I have had the honor of photographing Lisa’s besties in their weddings over the past few years and knew EXACTLY what kind of group I was going to work with
5. I could go on forever… but you will see for yourself how photogenic this spunky bride is!
JJ and Lisa fell in love at the diamonds, so it was only appropriate to incorporate their passion in their laid-back wedding photos. Beer, baseball bats, hot summer sun, and a group of hilarious friends and family joined us on the field to capture a few moments of what fills these two lovebirds with joy. To say that was the most fun part of the day is an understatement!!! The couple truly let loose and now they have portraits that truly reflect their personality and style. SO FUN!
Lisa decked her day out with pops of vibrant orange and a cool gray. The funky color scheme was found everywhere from the sweet candy bar, live goldfish and gerber daisy centerpieces, satin ribbons, coordinating Converse shoes fashioned by the men, and of course her delicate cupcake tower. YUM! Besides the amazingly unique color scheme and attention to detail — it was hard not to feel the energy between these two. Cheers to you lovebirds!!!
